Enough Is Enough

I am fed up. Just a couple of articles ago I wrote about how important it is to wear a mask. I was nice and added some humor but after today, no more Mr. Nice Guy.

I work out almost every day at home. I am doing so well at it, I’m thinking about dropping my gym membership. I have found I’m more dedicated than when I went to a gym and getting a much better workout. Besides, I’m saving a couple of bucks. I get up early, do a bunch of different exercises and weights and then finish it up with a bike ride. While riding my bike this morning, I was confronted by a guy who pointed and laughed at me because I was wearing a mask. Being the diplomatic kind of guy I am, I told him to “Wear a mask…asshole.”

The guy who was mocking me for wearing a mask was the picture of “underlying conditions.” He was as old as I was and obese. If anyone should be wearing a mask it should have been this guy. But I guess he’s too cool to be seen wearing a mask. I bet he drives around with the buzzer blaring because he refuses to fasten his seatbelt in his car? Does he raise a stink when he removes his shoes while going through TSA at the airport? I’m sure he will be the first to complain if someone is smoking a cigarette near him. Don’t want to tread on his God given right to be a jerk.

I can not believe we are this far into a pandemic and people are not wearing some kind of face covering to protect themselves and others. For some reason they have decided it is a political statement. There are several ways to flatten the curve of this disease. One, a vaccine, but they haven’t developed one yet and despite what the guy in Washington says, it will be awhile before a tested, reliable one is available. Two, a complete shutdown. Considering how many people were in the street waving around their AR15s about being made to stay at home earlier this year, that could lead to another kind of safety issue. Three, everyone wears masks. It would be as effective as a vaccine, let the economy open and would buy time for the scientists to get to that vaccine.

My son works for OSHA and one of things they have studied are face masks. OSHA deals with work environments where face coverings are required for employee’s safety. He informed me that all the complaints I am hearing about face masks are unfounded. He explained to me that when wearing a mask you are not a risk for CO2 poisoning. He also said studies showed that while wearing a mask, you are receiving just as much oxygen as without one and the CO2 levels are insignificant. He added, while wearing a mask you will be breathing more oxygen than people in Denver breath without a mask. Anything you hear about not being able to breath is just fiction. You may have to work a little harder to breathe but nothing worth worrying about.

Why are we so divided on an issue that will save our lives? Probably because the guy in Washington is spreading misinformation and half truths. We have well educated scientists and health experts telling us one thing and we have a very small group of his followers pushing debunked theories. Why? I have no clue. It makes absolutely no sense. If someone told you leaving a burning building will save your life, then someone at the door tells you otherwise, who would you choose. I choose to follow the smart people, not the proven idiots.

According to polls, up to 80% of the people in this country believe we should be wearing masks to protect us. Where are they? Every time I go out, I see only a couple of people wearing masks. I am shocked. We have been told how to protect ourselves from a deadly virus but choose to ignore it. If that guy mocks me again about wearing a mask I will remind him he should wear a mask for his own safety…and eat a salad once in a while.

  1. Many are not wearing because they see this is another flu virus and those who feel the need to wear can. They’ve run the real numbers and aren’t afraid, wanting to live a full life. It’s not the bubonic plague. It’s another flu. And they’ve also noticed that “they” never responded to other germs, diseases, and viruses in such a fashion, so why this one, and right after the failed impeachment trials which were a joke. They’re seeing the real cause and effects. Many can’t, or won’t, But in American, people have the freedom and many will not be held in “chains” of ideas. Think for yourself.

  2. Ignoring the truth about how deadly this disease is baffles me. So, you aren’t afraid of dying, fine but putting others at risk because of your arrogance is irresponsible. While you’re thinking for yourself, people who really know how bad it is are warning us to take heed. It is not another flu. That’s what an uniformed politician said. Scientist say otherwise. Over 120,000 dead in just four months should be enough evidence. Your theory that this was another effort by democrats to unseat Trump doesn’t hold water. This is a deadly pandemic (for those who don’t understand that word, it means world wide). You give the President’s opponents much to much credit considering how they don’t have the assistance of our number enemy (Russia) to push his agenda. Keep spouting your BS. When he takes away my rights, he’ll take away yours…then come for your guns. That’s what dictators do. Check history around 1933.

  3. Wrong. But in this country, you have the right to be wrong, but the rest will seek understanding and freedom. We’ve learned that most, 65%, of those in the hospital are the ones wearing masks and staying home. The ones out and about, breathing the fresh air, are the healthier ones. We’ve also heard that many, many of the cases of people dying did not die of Covid, but were listed as that because they may have had it, but their death was due to other problems (i.e. cancer, heart failure, and so forth.). Look, if someone is in a car accident, then on the hospital about to die, then dies, and lab tests show Covid, think about that. **One more thing. If a people can be controlled due to a flu virus, how easy to control them in all other things.
