Wanderings

Having one of those days again. Can’t seem to focus on one subject but have all kind of things floating through my head. My sons claim that’s due to me hitting my head a few too many times but I think of it as a stream of consciousness (something I heard in the 60s). So, I think I will share some varying thoughts and observations.

I have been listening to a presentation called “The Magical History Tour” on the SiriusXM Beatles channel. It is fascinating. I am old enough to have lived through the whole mop top, British Invasion, Fab Four events. I call it my teenage years. My sons call it ancient history.

When I was in high school, I really didn’t care much for the Beatles. It was the music that all the girls screamed to. That always baffled me. Why pay to go see a group, then scream through it and not hear any of the music you went to hear. Who knows. Now that I am older and have gained a true appreciation for the Beatles, I am enjoying every little tid-bit that the Beatles historian is sharing between songs.

The hardest part of listening to old Beatles songs is realizing the surviving Beatles are old. OMG, Ringo is 80. That means, I’m not far behind. It’s making me face my own mortality.

It’s hard to believe but the NFL is starting up this week. Really? It seems like it came out of nowhere and boom, we have a football season. I know that the pandemic has been a bit of a distraction but I thought even news about the NFL would rise to the top and override anything else. It’s un-American to think otherwise. I think that’s written somewhere in the Constitution.

Other sports have had to alter their schedules, go into bubbles for protection from the virus and rearrange their playoff plans. What a crazy time. At the time of this writing the NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL, US Open Tennis, NASCAR Playoffs, Golf playoffs and majors and College Football are all going on at the same time. Do you know what that is doing to my daily wardrobe selection? Which of my teams do I represent? You know what, it was a much simpler time a couple of months ago when there were no sports and none of my teams were disappointing me.

I try not to delve into politics in my articles. I have other outlets to express my opinion on things of that nature. What is getting on my nerves is how the news is covering all the upheaval going on in our world. Instead of putting on four talking heads to spin the news we heard, just report it and let us make up our minds. Considering we have video of everything said or done these days, I don’t need to be told by some highly paid political consultant that I didn’t really see what I saw.

That leads to these crazies perpetuating completely false conspiracy theories. There was a time when these theories would never have seen the light of day due to their lack of veracity but today we have a several news networks that is dedicated to crazy conspiracy theorist. Now, let’s get back to talking about who assassinated JFK.

I live in California and at this time I am surrounded by fires. It is September, hot and very dry. It doesn’t take much to get one of these blazes started. I was playing golf with some of my friends the other day when we saw a very small column of smoke rising in the sky just a couple of miles away. By the time we finished, the small column was now covering a hillside and in the days since, had grown into a massive, destructive wildfire. How did it start? I read today that it was due to a gender reveal gone wrong. The device used to show the gender sparked and started the fire

One of my golf buddies went scurrying off the course because his house was near the fire. He and his wife were evacuated but are back into their home. Just two years ago my wife, mother-in-law, my wife’s aunt and I all were evacuated due to fires. Hoping that everyone out here experiencing the same problems we’ve had, can stay safe and get back to their homes soon.

From what I hear, that unborn child will be paying off the debt incurred by it’s parents for starting the fire, long after they are gone. What a way to start a life.

So let’s review. The Beatles are history, literally. Sports are suddenly back and in abundance, and my teams are still terrible. How about the unvarnished truth and less pundit pontificating and there will be one person in this world that will have student loan like debt, without going to college.

I think that’s about it. You may now go back to your regular lives. I’m finished here.
